주식 관련 파생상품의 사용이 최근 몇 년간 급격히 증가하고 있다. 중앙 은행들의 국제 컨소시엄 국제결제은행(Bank for International Settlements)에 따르면, 미국에서 상장된 주식에 대한 스왑과 관련 상품을 포함한 미지분 파생상품의 양은 2015년 말 500억 달러에서 2020년 상반기 1100억 달러 이상으로 두 배 이상 증가했다고 한다.
